It is situated on almost one acre of lush landscaped gardens and located on the boundary of Hillsborough and San Mateo. It is registered in the Smithsonian Institute as the most authentic privately owned Japanese garden in the United States and is a County, State and National Historical Site.

The authentic garden provides an intriguing and compelling opportunity for a film maker to project it to anywhere in Japan for filming. The authentic tea house was built in the late 1800's by Japanese artisans brought to the United States specifically for it's construction.

The location was a recent site for a television commercial and movie production wanting the authenticity that the garden represents. The property was also personally viewed and considered by Steven Spielberg's director Rob Marshall for the major film, "Memoirs of a Geisha." The garden was featured on the Oprah show several years ago as one of the most beautiful gardens in the United States. It has also been photographed and written about in numerous home and garden magazines and books over the years.
