Castle Von Frandsen is a real stone castle under construction on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho. The castle has been the site for a couple of minor filmings and the History Channel has already done a program on the build. THC funded a portion of the costs of the 45' bell tower with circular stairway up the mountain. The castle is in vanilla shell state and with the addition of the last Norman tower currently nearing completion, will have a floor plan of more than 8,000 sf. Constructed by the American authority on castles Roger DeClement of CastleMagic, it has granite walls both exterior and interior. The ceilings are beamed with timbers from the Frandsen Forrest and stone fireplaces are on multiple levels. More than 1.3M pounds of imported stone have gone into the construction. The interior is dried in and ready for sets and scene shots. The owner is asking market weekly rates for the property but will consider offsets for agreed upon improvements to the property that remain with the property. Located at the northern end of the lake, it is situated between Hope and Sandpoint ID. The closest resort is at Bottle Bay where there are overnight accommodations, a bar and restaurant, and boat rentals.

The site is best accessed by boat from Sandpoint or Bottle Bay, ID but the roads in are adequate for heavy equipment and standard vehicles. The dock is a deep water structure suitable for up to 60' each in a two slip arrangement. Tourists regularly photograph and view the site from the Pend Oreille Paddler. a stern wheeler providing boat tours. There is limited parking on site probably not to exceed 20 vehicles but the Frandsen Forrest has an area to the south up the mountain for staging equipment and for additional parking. Helicopter service is available from Spokane International Airport with advance notice. The service can land on the dock area.

The castle has granite stone walls both exterior and interior. Ceilings are beamed from timbers cut on the property. Stone fireplaces are on multiple levels. The bell tower has a circular stairway to the viewing level. The site has 620+ feet of Lake Pend Oreille shore front, mostly cliff side. The castle and stonework battlement walls span 500 feet on the 60 foot cliff tops and are constructed with granite imported from Canada from the same quarry which supplied the material for the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C.
The timbers and beams were hewn from the trees in the surrounding Frandsen Forest where the eagles make the castle forest trees home.
The castle has 440 amp service, water from a private well, and sewer services available.
The dock access is through an underground stone tunnel lying beneath the battlement walls leading from the water to the fortress lower levels.
The site on Lake Pend Oreille is surrounded by the Cabinet, Selkirk and Bitteroot Mountain Ranges. It is private, very secure and with outstanding views of the Schweitzer ski mountain, both Upper and Lower Mt. Baldy, the Seven Sisters mountain range, Chimney Rock, Roman Nose Mountain, and Tressel Creek Valley near Hope ID. Lake Pend Oreille is the 5th deepest lakes in North America and enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding glacier carved peaks and valleys. The majority of the shoreline on this 43 mile long lake is uninhabited. There are numerous locations on this lake's 111 miles of shoreline for supporting scene locations.
The owner will allow some prior approved modifications to the property and will consider some reductions in the weekly rents for acceptable modifications that stay with the property.
